What is Aluminum Extrusion ?

Extrusion is defined as shaping aluminum of a specific shape (often described as a billet) by heating the aluminum, passing it through a die and forcing it to flow through a hole. After extrusion, the shape of the die is applied along the aluminum. It is possible to obtain aluminum profiles in different shapes by extrusion.

What are the Stages of Aluminum Extrusion ?

Aluminum profiles as raw material in the process are defined as billets.

Aluminum billets are heated up to 350 -500°C.
After the aluminum billet reaches the desired temperature, the lubricant material is transferred as a thin film.
The heat prevents the mold and material from sticking to each other.
The billet is then transferred to the carrier.
When the billets of aluminum billet are in full contact with the carrier walls, they are crushed by the opposite mold. The aluminum is pushed through the mold. Liquid nitrogen flows around the mold to cool the process. Nitrogen gas is also used instead of liquid nitrogen.
As a result of the pressure, the billet is squeezed out of the cavity of the aluminum die. After extrusion, the temperature is measured and recorded instantaneously.
During extrusion withdrawal, cooling is carried out by a series of fans along the length of the extrusion outlet cooling table.
The oxidized part on the billet is removed.
When the extrusion reaches the desired length, the aluminum extrusion is cut with the help of a profile saw. The metal is transferred on the cooling table.
Cooling process is done. After the cooling process, aluminum hardening and alignment process is performed.
The extrusion is then transferred to a stretched saw blade on the cutting saw and cut with the help of certain lengths. The cutting tolerance on the saw is approximately 0.8 cm.

How to Extrude Aluminum Profile?

Aluminum profile extrusion is applied through aluminum extrusion presses. As the carrying capacity of the presses increases, the billet diameters also increase. Thus, the maximum die sizes increase.

The first stage of the aluminum profile extrusion process is to obtain a die, a piece of metal used to obtain the desired aluminum shape. After this process, the aluminum billet is heated and forced into the die with the help of a steel piston. The extruded aluminum is then placed on a long table for transport to the cooling area.

The aluminum extrusion process can be done cold and hot. Cooling in this process is carried out with water and air. After cooling, the rough shaped aluminum extrusion profile is flattened. It is then placed in aging furnaces for heating and hardening.
